emCycling Members Gather for Photo prior to MS 150 Ride.

ExxonMobil Cycling Club members gathered on the steps of the Houston Campus for a group photo.  More than 150 Club members participated in the 2017 MS 150 raising funds supporting the National MS Society's efforts to Stop MS In Its Tracks.

It's a two step process:

  • Log in to www.TeamSnap.com with your current user ID and password.
  • Select Account / Change My Account Name
  • Click The Edit Button and update the Username field

  • From the TeamSnap.com home page Select My Teams and Leagues
  • Click the Team Name in the "My Teams" section
  • Click the Roster button in the heading and select your profile

emCycling Builds Bikes For School Children

ExxonMobil Cycling Club has a long-standing partnership with CYCLE to build bikes for elementary school children who improve their literacy scores.  Pictured below with the first bike assembled in 2016 are members of the Cycle Core Team including founder David Moore and emCycling Quality Assurance team members John Schoepf, Steve Lopez, Tom Braschayko, Gary Teletzke and Jim Robin.

Look Sharp Riding in 2017  

Here is our 2017 cycling kit concept.  Join or renew by Nov 30 to be assured of a jersey in your size.  Jerseys are supplied on a best efforts basis for registrations after Nov 30.  Jersey distribution occurs at the Club Safety Picnic scheduled for Feb 25, 2017.

emCycling Supports The Lighthouse of Houston - Tandem Program  

ExxonMobil Cycling volunteers stepped forward to Captain tandem bikes with vision impaired Stokers riding along.  Some of our folks were first time Captain's and leveraged their safety training focused on Be Predictable, Communicate and Manage Hazards.  The tandem bike program is part of The Lighthouse of Houston's wellness program to address impacts of sedentary lifestyle of many vision impaired people.  With the guidance of the tandem bike Captain, the stoker can get some fresh air, exercise and enjoy cycling.  Contact Fred Corsiglia if interested in joining this group.


emCycling Presents Bike Houston with 1st Membership Check  

In our first month of accepting 2017 registrations, 20% of team members chose to take advantage of the $10 discount on a Bike Houston membership.

One Community United Bike Ride Yields over $1,200 for the United Way   

Team members enjoyed the Spring Creek Greenway Ride supporting the United Way.  We were happy to have Park Rangers riding along and providing SAG support!


Bike Around The Bay   

20 emCycling members enjoyed a great two-day 170 mile ride around the scenic Galveston Bay.

 

 

2016 MS 150 Award Results:  

The MS Society recognized the ExxonMobil Cycling Club with the following at the October 3rd awards dinner:  

·        Safety Award - Platinum!  The Platinum Safety Award is presented at the descretion of the MS 150 Safety Committee.  Candidates must meet the Gold Award qualifications and demonstrate an "above and beyond" commitment to safe cycling.  The ExxonMobil Cycling Club is a three-time Platinum Award recipient with no other team having received this award more than once.    

·        Fundraising - #7 Top Fundraising Team with over $361k raised in the 2016 event

·        Overall - Mission Possible Award recognizing success in Safety, Fundraising Training and Fundraising Results

2017 Registration will open Sep 26, 2016  

We will open 2017 registration on Sep 26th.  Annual registration is $120.  Join or renew by Nov 30 and save $20.  You will be able to complete your ExxonMobil Cycling Club registration and MS150 registration on the day.  Start by reviewing the Membership Info tab and follow it to the Registration Form.  Group Riding Skills classes are posted on the Safety page.

·        Save $10 on Bike Houston 2017 Membership - Discounted memberships are $30 for Individual Memberships and $55 for Family Memberships

 ·        Jersey Style Selection - Choose from either a Road Bike or Mountain Bike style jersey.  MTB style jersey selection is only available through Nov 30.  A 2nd jersey can be purchased at time of registration if you join by Nov 30.  Registrants must satisfy safety training requirements to receive the club jersey.        

 ·        Club Logo Shirt - Club members will receive a campus dress code compliant shirt bearing the new team logo.  Wear it to promote the Club and recruit new members.

There is No Dust on My Bike: 

 

Eleven team members participated in our first ever Knock The Dust Off Your Bike ride.  The 20 mile out and back ride started on the Heights Trail and then followed the White Oak Bayou Trail up to Antoine Drive.  Breakfast tacos at Torchy's was the perfect finish to the ride.

Mountain Bike Committee Tours Houston Urban Art:

May 22nd proved to be a great day for a ride as the Mountain Bike group hit the streets for a tour of Houston's Urban Art (The Grafitti Ride) and a ride down White Oak Drive during Houston's Cigna Sunday Streets.  Click Here for more pictures.

ExxonMobil Cycling Team Supports Earth Day @ Houston Campus:

Almost a dozen team member volunteered at the ExxonMobil Houston Campus April 22, 2016.  Our focus was commute routes to campus from Spring and The Woodlands and Helmet Fit tips. 

 
 
 
 
 180 Team Members Register for the Houston to Austin MS150:

The 2016 MS150 capped off our Spring Cycling Season with 180 participating team members.  Almost half of the team chose to start at Tully Stadium for the 100 mile route to LaGrange.  Some were motivated to take the longest route because day two of the ride was cancelled due to weather threats or because of a strong tailwind.

ExxonMobil Cycling Team Hosts Helmet Fit Station @ Bike Houston Moonlight Ramble:  

As a service to Moonlight Ramble participants, the ExxonMobil Cycling Team organized the first ever Helmet Fit Station drawing from League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructors and MS150 Ride Marshals.  Many riders received the benefit of a proper helmet fit raising not only their personal safety but also the safety of others around them.  The Moonlight Ramble is a fundraiser benefitting Bike Houston, the Houston area bicycling advocacy organization.

Thank you to our Jersey Design and Distribution Committee for coming up with several excellent options. The Steering Committee selected the Industry Themed jersey as our design concept for 2016.  Here is a rendition from our jersey manufacturer.

 

2015 MS150 Awards Banquet Results:  

At the October 5th awards banquet, the MS Society recognized the ExxonMobil Cycling Team results with the following awards.  


·        Safety Award - Gold

·        Fundraising - #5 Top Fundraising Team with over $388k raised in the 2015 event

·        Fundraising - #3 Large Team Average of over $1,800 per rider

·        Overall - Mission Possible Award recognizing success in Safety, Fundraising Training and Fundraising Results


In addition, the Society recognized our friend Joe Morse as the most energetic and senior MS150 participant.  Joe received a standing ovation from the crowd after hearing his story of first riding the MS150 at age 86 and having completed 4 consecutive rides.


2016 Registration will open Oct 15, 2015  

We will open 2016 registration on Oct 15th.  Annual registration remains $100.  Join or renew by Nov 30 and save $20.  You will be able to complete your ExxonMobil Cycling Team registration and MS150 registration on the same day.  Watch for emails with more details.

·        Family Rate - Full price ($100 or $80) for first registration, $50 for spouse and children

 ·        MS150 Hotel Reservation - If requesting a hotel for Saturday night, you will need to pay the room fee at time of reservation.

Team Members Conrad Hirsch, Robert Bailey and Steve Lopez were happy to join 100 of Joe's friends and family in celebrating his 90th birthday!  We look forward to number 100.  



Join us for our Off Season Cycling Rides  

We have traditionally focused our training efforts in the late winter/early spring and around the MS150. This year, we are promoting a few group rides throughout the summer too! These rides will help you maintain and improve the fitness level you achieved leading up to the MS150 ride.  Initially, in order to gauge interest and participation, we will be promoting EMCT participation in a different local shop ride each month.

Nov 14, 2015 - Bikeland, The Woodlands.  Start Location:  Whole Foods parking lot, 1925 Hughes Landing, The Woodlands

7:30AM Start - Two Route Options

Advanced: 50 Miles, 17-18 mph.  Leader assisted, recommend having GPS available if you drop from the group.  Usually complete at 11AM.

Recreational: 25 miles, 14-16 mph.  Do Drop Ride.  Usually complete between 9:30-9:45AM.


Past Bike Shop Rides:

June 13, 2015 - 7:15 am Start.  Bike Barn - Champions, 6935 Cypresswood Dr, Spring 

This ride has two groups:

·        An intermediate group, which will ride~40 miles at a 18-22mph pace, and

·        A casual group, which will ride~15-20 miles at a 15-18mph pace.

Both groups leave the shop at 7:15am. Please refer to the map of the ride route attached – also note, it is not currently updated on their website – the casual route basically follows the southern “loop” portion of the route as marked on the map.

A few recommendations if you plan to join us for the morning ride:

·        This is not a fully supported ride

 

July 11, 2015 - 8 AM Urban Bike Gallery, 4814 Nett St, Houston 713-863-0991 

 

·       The ride follows a 20-22 mile route at an average pace of 18-20 mph, with accommodation made for different pace groups based on who shows up.  The route starts at the bike shop and follows TC Jester to Oak Forest, Garden Oaks, The Heights, to downtown and back.  This is a no-drop ride.


Aug 15, 2015 - Bicycle World Houston, 14536 Memorial Dr, Houston

This bike shop offers three options:

·        Two FAST groups that ride a 60 mile route at a 20+ mph and a 23+ mph pace.

·        An intermediate group, which ride 36 miles at a 17 mph pace, and

·        A casual group, which will ride 36 miles at 14 mph pace or as determined by the group.

All groups leave the shop at 7:00 am. We are working with the bike shop to establish a digital map.

Sept 12, 2015 - Two Options to Choose From

7AM - Tour de Cure Training Ride open to TdC participants.  RSVP and Maps available on TdC website.


7:30AM - Northwest Cycling Club Saturday Ride, Zube Park.  Details and maps are available on the NWCC website.


Oct 3, 2015 - Return to Urban Bike Gallery, 4814 Nett St, Houston 713-863-0991
